FAQ

What Can I Expect At My First Appointment?

Your first session is about getting oriented. We’ll talk about what brought you in, what you’re hoping for, and any important context that helps me understand you. There’s no pressure to share everything at once. We’ll also review consent, confidentiality, and how therapy works so you know what to expect moving forward.

Is It Normal To Feel Nervous Going To Therapy?

Absolutely. Feeling nervous, unsure, or even skeptical is very common — especially if this is your first time or you’ve had unhelpful experiences in the past. You don’t need to arrive calm, confident, or polished. Just showing up is enough.

Am I The Right Therapist For You?

I work best with individuals and couples who are thoughtful, high-functioning, and ready to look honestly at patterns that are no longer serving them. My approach blends evidence-based therapy with intuition, humour, and kind accountability. That means we don’t stay stuck in insight alone — we translate understanding into real change. I’m direct when it’s helpful, compassionate always, and comfortable having the hard conversations that lead to meaningful growth.

How Long Will I Work With You?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people come for short-term, focused work; others stay longer for deeper or ongoing support. We’ll check in regularly about goals, progress, and what feels most helpful so therapy remains intentional and aligned with your needs.

How Is Confidentiality Managed In A Small Town?

Confidentiality is taken seriously and managed according to professional, ethical, and legal standards set by the OCSWSSW. In small communities, discretion matters even more. I do not acknowledge clients in public unless you initiate contact, and I will never disclose identifying information without consent except where legally required.

Are You Going To Tell Me My Issues Are Hormonal?

No. Hormones matter — especially during life transitions — but they are never the whole story. We look at the full picture: biology, stress, relationships, past experiences, coping patterns, and current demands. Understanding hormonal influences can create compassion and clarity, not dismissal or blame.

Do You Work With Men?

Yes. I work with men individually and as part of couples therapy. Many men come to therapy unsure of what to expect or worried they’ll be blamed or misunderstood. My role is not to take sides, but to help people understand themselves and each other more clearly.

Do You Offer Direct Billing?

I offer direct billing for Canada Life, Desjardin, Manulife, Blue Cross. Receipts are provided for reimbursements from individual insurance companies outside of this list.

Do You Accept Any Other Insurance Companies?

Some additional insurance companies may have coverage for counselling services in addition to the ones listed. Please don't hesitate to enquire about your coverage availability.

How Quickly Am I Charged For A Late Cancellation?

Late cancellations and missed appointments are charged according to the practice cancellation policy outlined in your consent forms. Fees are processed immediately when an appointment is cancelled within 24hrs of the appointment.  If there is a true emergency please reach out as I try to work with clients as best as I can while also being cognizant of the cancellation policy and financial responsibility.

What If I'm Sick On The Day Of Our Appointment?

If you’re unwell, please let me know as soon as possible. When appropriate, sessions may be moved to a virtual format. This helps maintain continuity of care while respecting health and safety.

Do You Work With Families or Teens?

My practice is focused on adults and couples. I do not offer ongoing therapy for children or teens, but I’m happy to provide referrals if you’re looking for support in those areas.

Are There Pets In The Office?

Yes. There may be a calm, friendly dog present in the office at times. If you have allergies, fears, or preferences around this, please let me know and we’ll make appropriate arrangements.

Can I Bring Food/Drinks To My Session?
